LOS ANGELES – The pilot of a little plane has kicked the bucket in the wake of colliding with a West Los Angeles neighborhood two miles northeast of the Santa Monica Airport.
Government Aviation Administration representative Ian Gregor says the pilot of the single-motor Cessna 210 proclaimed a crisis before the plane slammed Friday evening. Gregor didn't know the reason for the crisis.
He says the pilot was approaching the airplane terminal for an arriving when the accident happened.
Los Angeles Fire representative Brian Humphrey says the accident lit a palm tree blazing. TV footage from a news helicopter demonstrated the scorched wreckage on a road corner and a broken wing on the ground.
The FAA and the NTSB will research the reason for the accident.
