SEOUL, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Samsung Electronics said Saturday that a U.S. federal court jury's verdict should be viewed as a loss for U.S. consumers as they will have fewer choices.
"Today's verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer. It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices," Samsung said in an e-mailed statement.
The statement came shortly after the nine-member U.S. federal court jury found that Samsung infringed on six of Apple's patents related to screen bounce back and zooming. The jury ruled that Apple didn't violate any Samsung patents.
The U.S. verdict came a day after a South Korean court ruled that the iPhone maker infringed on Samsung's two standard patents for data transmission technology, while Samsung violated Apple's one patent related to a "bounce-back" function on the touch screen.
Regarding the verdict, Samsung said "it is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners, or technology that is being improved every day by Samsung and other companies."
"Consumers have the right to choices, and they know what they are buying when they purchase Samsung products. This is not the final word in this case or in battles being waged in courts and tribunals around the world, some of which have already rejected many of Apple's claims," Samsung said.
