Saturday's photoshoot is not the first time the singer has referenced the iconic 1950s sex symbol.

LONDON: She's likened herself to the beloved sex symbol in a track on her latest album Unapologetic.

And Rihanna once again channelled Marilyn Monroe in a pair of red-hot snaps posted on

her Instagram account on Saturday, reported the Daily Mail on Sunday.

The Diamonds singer donned a curly platinum blonde wig for the impromptu photo session lying on a couch in a sparely decorated loft.

The images were taken by her best friend and photographer Melissa Forde, who also shared an especially leggy out-take.

The 25-year-old flaunted her thin pins in a black robe wrapped loosely around her waist with the neckline drawn low on her chest.

In one look the Bahamas-born beauty throws her head back over the arm of the couch, peering up at the ceiling in a pair of cat-eye sunglasses.

And to turn up the drama the Pon De Replay songstress painted her lips red and outlined her eyes in a smoky style.

Saturday's photoshoot is not the first time the singer has referenced the iconic 1950s sex symbol.

'Red lipstick, rose petals, heartbreak / I was his Marilyn Monroe,' she sings in her tune Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary on her latest album Unapologetic.

The song, which many have compared to her tumultuous relationship with on-again, off-again boyfriend Chris Brown, ties the blonde bombshell to another star lost at a young age, James Dean.

'Brown eyes, tuxedo, fast cars / A James Dean on the low,' she writes, continuing on about an ill-fated romance.

'Who knew the course of this one drive/ Injured us fatally/ You took the best years of my life/ I took the best years of your life,' she confesses, drawing a close parallel to the now famous incident in 2009 when police say Chris attacked her while the pair were driving home from a pre-Grammy bash.

Since then the couple have famously been on the rocks and the star has since claimed that in spite of the incident, the pair will 'always' love each other.

In a candid interview with chat show host Oprah Winfrey last year, Rihanna said: 'We love each other and we probably always will.

'It's awkward because I still love him. My stomach drops and I have to maintain this poker face and not let it get to the outer part of me. I have to maintain it and suppress it. When you don't understand those feelings you can make a lot of mistakes.

'I think he is the love of my life. He was my first love.'
