A texting woman fell into an icy canal and had to be rescued, according to a Jan. 25 UPI report. The woman, Laura Safe, is a British radio personality, which made the story get even more attention.
Obviously, it is not safe to text and drive, and more and more it is becoming clear that texting and walking is also incredibly dangerous. As for the texting woman who fell into a canal in Birmingham, it was all caught on video by CCTV.
Because she was distracted, Safe did not realize she was so near the canal. She said,
"I thought the canal was pavement because it looked dark out of the corner of my eye."
The radio personality, who had to be quite embarrassed that her texting accident was caught on video maintained a good attitude about the situation. She took to Twitter and wrote,
"I should really be called Laura UNsafe after the day I've had."
She is certainly lucky that she did not get seriously injured during her texting and walking. She credits passerby Neil Edginton with saving her life. Given the icy conditions of the canal, this story could have ended much more tragically.
